SABEL Saddlery is delighted to present a bespoke, extendable, acrylic-bodied, leather-clad drawing tube for Rinck. Founded in 1841, Rinck is a renowned specialist in luxury interior design and furniture, and although located physically in Paris, their projects are undertaken globally.
Commissioned via French gentleman's accessory brand Monsieur London, the brief was to design and create an extendable cylindrical container in which to safely transport drawings and artwork. As it also needed to be sheathed in leather, the only solution was to hand stitch the hide over the polished acrylic body.
The tube assembly is 1 metre long, has a removable lid and a detachable two position strap that uses nickel-plated trigger hooks to attach it to D-rings on the main shaft. When extra length is required, there is an optional section that can be inserted onto the main body which adds an extra 50cm to the overall tube length. Although both the lid and the tube sections have been designed as a friction fit, additional chapes and Sam Browne studs have also been used for additional security. This relatively long size was specified to allow the client to carry the full-size drawings often required for the extremely detailed work for which they are known.
As a finishing touch we also embossed Rinck's logo onto the brown shoulder leather of the sheath from vector artwork that the client supplied.
Like many of our bespoke projects, this one was a challenge, but now through the sleepless nights we're really proud of the result.
