SABEL Saddlery was approached to carefully restore this beautiful oak-bottomed, engineer's tool bag. We're unsure of its provenance, but it came to us with a 1965 sixpence in the inside pocket!
The bag has been thoroughly overhauled, the leather fed and treated, all the fittings replaced with new solid brass items and the original straps and handles upgraded with vintage green bridle leather. Hand-stitched using caramel linen thread throughout. Since the images were taken the body of the bag was reattached to the oak base using brass-headed upholstery nails and a replacement leather trim.
We also added to the original format an adjustable, removable canvas and leather shoulder strap in vintage green bridle leather and tan canvas webbing.
We loved this bag so much - alas it's now back with its owner - we're currently sourcing reclaimed oak and reviewing leather samples to prototype this design for others.
