RL Automotive 45mm

Designed in close collaboration with our client, we developed watch straps for three timepieces from his collection. This is the second in this case study series – a bespoke, made-to-measure and fitted rally strap for a Ralph Lauren Automotive 45mm.

The amboyne burl wood bezel, inspired by the aesthetics of a vintage Bugatti, has also driven the choice of leather for the strap – dark stain oak bark
pit-tanned leather from Devon.

This rally strap has been modified with the addition of a black lining which shows through the perforations of the strap. This lining has also given the strap a layered appearance on its edges.

The hole pattern has also been inspired by classic brogue shoes – the spacing and sizing of the perforations has been designed to continue into the single buckle hole.

“I liked this watch because of the steering wheel bezel, simple arabic numerals and matte black dial. RL have their movements made by the company that owns IWC and others, so it’s a great movement and this is a limited edition release in their newly stepped up watch program.”
