Leather Belt Making course, Level: Intermediate
Blackhorse Workshop, 1–2 Sutherland Rd Path, E17 6BX
Sun 8 February 2015, 10-4pm, £125 + £3.25 fee (POSTPONED)
A full day course to learn how to make your own made-to-measure leather belt.
You will discover how to prepare the leather and master the art of double hand-stitching using an awl. You’ll then use a series of finishing techniques to polish the leather, and you can personalise your belt with our collection of vintage stamps and letters.
We’ll also introduce you to some key tools of the trade, and show you how to use a pricking wheel, strap cutter and sharpening tools as well as sharing recommendations for the best leather suppliers around.
This course is suitable for anyone who has previously attended our introductory leather making course or has previous experience in hand-stitching leather.
Before the start of the course, Blackhorse Workshops will be in touch to confirm:
- the waist size of whoever you’re making the belt for
- your choice of brown or black leather (1″ or 1.5″ width)
- your choice of a nickel or brass buckle
We’ll also send you home with the necessary needles, gum and cloth to complete the finishing touches if you need it.
We are also running another evening introduction to leatherworking course for beginners on Weds 14 January 2015, 7-9.30pm – you could always purchase either of these courses as a Christmas gift.
